Only a few things surprised the SJG last night. Fantasia's wacky hairstylin'. Daughtry's whirly sideburns. Bon Jovi's failure to call me. The top three? Muchly what I expected. I've liked these three from the beginning. True, the Hotness has been inconsistent, but he's talented and dreamy and pleasing on the eyes. He'll get the boot next week, I betcha. He's past due.
With the right management and creative backup, he'll have a career, a la Bo Bice, maybe bigger, on looks alone. Without the guidance, the Hotness will fade away. Come the finale, Crystal should take the crown (kina hora), but Lee might take it, instead. My heart belongs to Mamasox. She arrived on Idol fully formed, a hippy chick/flower child throwback, with gorgeous vocals, authenticity that can't be manufactured, and direct lineage to Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt and other long-haired soul sistas. Lee has a growly, Bob Segerness about him, a sweet shyness, but too much Nickelback to make him all that original. His vocals slipslide at times, but he's likeable, marketable, iPod-ready. We shall see, won't we? Yes, we will.
