Dusty in repose |
One dog. Two personalities, each deserving its own name. The calm lab, the eight-year-old pup, the snuggler that licks our toes, rolls over in search of belly rubs, and sleeps half the day? That's Dusty. Mr. Lovable.

Durryabis in action |
The crazy dude, the food thief, the swiper of sandals, socks, cooking utensils and oven gloves, the non-stop barker, the growler, the disturber of all meals, morning, noon and night, the sneaky consumer of soap and sidewalk leftovers and anything that will make him upchuck, inappropriately, and require costly medical attention? That's Durryabis, a nickname the eldest came up with this summer, watching his favorite animal charge off with his friend's flip-flops. Some days he's Dusty. Some days he's Durryabis. Some days he's a mixture of both. We love him, no matter what, and yet, we often wonder, in the words of the eldest, "Why can't he just chill?"
Dusty's a cute little menace. But, more importantly, tell me about your kitchen. What do you have on your countertops? Backsplash? Is that a toaster oven I see behind the pup's head? Maple cabinets? Please inform, asap. Me likey.
ReplyDeleteOh, BG, once again, you've given me my first laugh of the day!!!! The kitch was pre-determined. All-doney when we bought the joint 10 years ago. But yes, granite countertops, matching backsplash smacking up against maple cabinets. My only complaint: the maple under the sink is messed up from water spillage. Not sure what we could've done there. Stop by for a private viewing.
ReplyDeleteOMG, you have an island in the kitch! Always wanted one of those...But back to business:
ReplyDeleteDusty's a blond lab, I assume... Expecting him mto ever chill is like asking all restaurants in Italy to stop making pizza. (I know--lousy simile, but all I could come up with on short notice!)
yeah, I see the typo.
ReplyDeleteCome visit my island, Vicki. It's the only one I have, and it's all mine... mine... mine. We'll wear hula skirts and drink pina coladas. Oh, I disgress. Yes, Dusty is blond and full of hell. Just today he stole a sock, a flip-flop and a dish towel. My first dog. Turns out, guinea pigs are easier to train.
ReplyDeleteAfter 8 years the good news is that Dusty has calmed down quite a bit. The bad news is your blog leaves out vital information! As an eye witness I can swear that when there are guests over and Dusty jumps up to the kitchen counter to grab food Carol tosses the food that Dusty licked. However one wonders how much Doggy Slobber has been consumed when no one but family is witness to Dusty's latest grab & dash food wise. Fess up!!
ReplyDeleteDusty slobber is full of vitamins and good for the soul. One question: Who is this?
